“Listen, O daughter, consider and give ear… The king is enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord.” – Psalm 45, NIV
To love is to see the beautiful. We love God because we see how beautiful He really is. We love our neighbors because we see God’s image in them. We see how beautiful they can truly become in God.
Lord, bless the eyes of my heart that I may see true beauty. Let my eyes behold how beautiful You are – how pure, how good, how lovely! And even though Your image is often marred in our sin and imperfections, let us behold still the beauty shining through, for You have given true beauty indeed to them whom You made in Your very own likeness. Who can even tell if the worst of sinners today can be great saints tomorrow, saints who will love you and praise you for all eternity!
“One thing I have asked of the LORD, that I will seek after: that I may dwell in the LORD’s house all the days of my life, to see the LORD’s beauty, and to enquire in his temple.” – Psalm 27:4, WEB-BE
Some characters will succeed in reforming themselves only by the loving contemplation of the divine Master; for we imitate those whom we love, without being conscious of doing so. – Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange OP (1877–1964)
“Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things.” – Philippians 4:8, WEB
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him…” – Genesis 1:27, ESV
You have ravished my heart, my sister, my bride.
You have ravished my heart with one of your eyes,
with one chain of your neck.
How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride!
How much better is your love than wine!
The fragrance of your perfumes than all kinds of spices!
-Song of Solomon 4:9-10, WEB
